This year has just seen the start of the World cup season in the run up to the Rio Olympic Games 2016. World cup 1 is underway in Cairo Egypt with two Scottish Pentathletes (Jo Muir and Eilidh Prise) competing in the Qualification rounds of the Competition.
Budapest International bronze medallist Joanna Muir came heartbreakingly close to qualifying through time. She started the day off well with a 6th place finish in the pool after securing a time of 2:15.45, before scoring 11 victories in the fence. Muir went into the combined event in 18th position, with a 74 second handicap but pulled back to finish the group in 12th place, missing a qualification position by three places. (12th in Qualification group C)
Eilidh Prise was making her World cup debut in Cairo, Prise scored 11 victories in the fence and secured a swim time of 2:23.33, before starting the combined event in 24th place with an 84 second handicap. The Scottish Pentathlete ran the combined event in 13:20.54 to move up six places in the table. (18th in Qualification group B)
We would also like to congratulate Georgia Pipes on her World cup debut and finishing 26th in Qualification group A.
And also good luck and congratulations to Junior World Champion Francesca Summers on qualifying for the final of World cup #1, she will be competing again on Friday 26th February against some of the Worlds best pentathletes in the World cup final.
Today will see the mens Qualification rounds and we wish them the best of luck
Go team GB!
