Obstacle Explorers

Event Date:

Following a pilot programme completed in 2025 with a number of primary and junior schools in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust (YST) and British Obstacle Sports (BOS) Pentathlon GB has launched an exciting new programme “Obstacle Explorers“.

The programme is based on an Icelandic model that uses the school environment including classrooms and outdoor spaces to encourage physical activity and movement. The programme combines multi-sport themes with an obstacle-based approach and aligns closely with the UK Government’s focus on education, sport and extra-curricular activity.

Following further development, the programme is now available to all primary and junior schools across the UK. Schools will be able to access resources either as a physical hard copy or as downloadable materials.

Over time, it is hoped that this programme will help direct more young athletes towards Modern Pentathlon and raise overall awareness of the sport. It may also support Pentathlon Hubs and Clubs by offering ideas for multi-sport and obstacle-based training activities.

It is recognised by Pentathlon GB that access to full obstacle “rig” facilities remains a key challenge and Pentathlon GB will continue to work both locally and nationally to support athlete development and improve accessibility where possible. Development of a secondary school version of “Obstacle Explorers” is also planned.
